In addition to the area near the center of town, where all the photos on this page were taken, Island Falls has convenient access to • Mount Chase • Shin Falls • Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument • Houlton Riverfront Park • Mount Katahdin • Baxter State Park

Oh, and if you plan to stay in Island Falls for a while, be sure to bring your passport, because Canada is only 30-minutes away on I-95N.
Island Falls is just off I-95. If you’re traveling and need gas or something to eat, make a quick stop in Island Falls.
A little about infrastructure in Island Falls.
The town is mostly on US Route 2, flowing into Maine State Route 159, so the primary roads are plowed. There is a Volunteer Fire Department, which is right next to Katahdin Public Library.
The Town Office is the place to go to register/re-register a vehicle, and also to pay the water bill (most residents have access to town water) and take care of other such business. The Town Office also has a gymnasium in the same building that hosts sports, entertainment events, and craft fairs. NOTE: There’s no way to get a driver license at the Town Office. The closest Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices are in Caribou and Bangor.
For garbage and recycling dropoff, the North Katahdin Valley Waste Disposal District is just a few miles up Route 2 from Island Falls. Island Falls also has nearby redemption centers for bottles and cans.
Versant Power has a location in Island Falls, and Spectrum provides cable internet, tv, and phone service. Starlink internet service is also available in Island Falls.
There is a veterinarian, Island Falls Animal Health Clinic, on 159 just across 95 from the main part of the town, although the waiting list is long, and Island Falls residents may need to find a veterinarian in Lincoln, Houlton, Presque Isle, or other towns. A very short way further up 159 is a clinic of Katahdin Valley Health Center, with a larger location in nearby Patten, only about 15 minutes from Island Falls.
Island Falls is a known for being the town in northern Maine that Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, visited as a young man. When he was in Island Falls, Theodore — Teddy — stayed with his friend and guide, William Sewall, and he’d often hike to a place called Bible Point (an official Maine Historic Site) to read and think.
Island Falls leans toward the conservative side politically, as does Aroostook County, with about a 60/40 split. The people of Island Falls and The County (as Aroostook is called in Maine) are friendly, and the vast majority of residents choose not to discuss politics at all.
Everyone is welcome in Island Falls!
